There are some new Affinity models being released. Two flame tops, and a couple of thinlines. Specs are the same as the existing Affinity range. Look kinda neat, especially that sunburst thinline. :p

I wonder if the Affinity series is being positioned to become the new Squier standard series with the Sonic series taking over the beginner/budget niche formerly occupied by Affinity series guitars?

Roughly, yes. The Sonic is the old Bullet Series, but with fancier paint jobs. Affinity is the former Standard, and Classic Vibe (inc. Paranormal) is the Vintage Modified of yesteryear.

I'd hazard a guess that that's why the Affinity got the 42mm nut width in the latest version, and the Debut series was introduced.

Then what is today's version of yesterday's Classic Vibe models ... because for a time there was both the CVs and the VMs with the CVs being at the top of the food chain. So maybe Squier will introduce a new lline of "super" CVs, a premier line?

Yes, there was an overlap, but the VM series was eventually superseded by the CV's. Note both lines had/have a Vintage/Classic mojo about them. There was also a Fender Made in China series for a few years too. But this line was soon dropped, apparently though they were just fancier CV's, without a nod to the vintage era, and with the Fender logo planted on them.

I loved those "Modern Player's" more than the "Pro Tone's! Problem was that I bought the Neck first but with 22 fret flush, it would not work in another Body! A year later I bought that Thinline Body and had to pull out a 22 fret Neck to work? Timing is everything and would like one whole! I never tested the P-90's so don't know if I would like?

Yeah, these were nice guitars, although the P-90's on the thinline were very noisy. Almost bought one of those dark brown ones back in the day, but the missus didn't like the colour. So, dang!

The "premier line" were the Chinese-built Fender Modern Players which were about $50 more expensive than the Squier CV's at the time, but they were too good apparently, and so Fender discontinued the range, for fear of them eating into MIM and US sales. They were built in the same factory as the CV's.

The new Affinity Teles I saw yesterday were 3 screw mount, string through body (holes just behind saddles like the Squier Standard Teles were), had a belly cut, and don’t say “Affinity” on the headstock.
I had heard about the string through and belly cut, but the lack of Affinity on logo was news to me.
Those necks might now seem more attractive as potential transplants, for folks who would want one without Affinity on it. May be fodder for fakes.
