At the time I was trying to be a bass player because nobody wanted to play bass. But I found it was really hard to sit at home and practice/play bass alone. So I decided to switch to guitar. I went on GC online and filtered out only solid body electrics and then sorted price low to high. This one was the cheapest one available on sale. It was a Deluxe Hot Rails when I got it. Over the years the two point trem failed and in replaced with a hardtail. Swapped out and lost the original hot rails, and added the sparkle pick guard. So 20-some odd years later I still have it and it’s my favorite of any guitar I have. It will never be parted with. IMG_2308.jpeg

I got 7 number ones at the moment. 3 more presently benched. 10 electrics is the perfect number. A bit too many but not too too many 😎

Yes I consider myself a very lucky puppy tho my ex tech (retired)told me I had the best nose for finding the best / most toneful electric guitars of any customer he’d ever dealt with. He even called in me a few times to give a thumbs up for used guitars he was looking to take in or consign in the shop.

The 7 I’m referring to are the best examples of each I’ve ever played and were all carefully cherry picked.

Out of the many it’s this one. Bought new from MF in 2003 for $113. Wasn’t that good in the beginning. I was 4 years into learning the instrument and trying to find something. Still reading everything I could get my hands on about everything guitar. Mostly Dan Erlewine’s Guitar Player’s
Repair guide. I recommend learning the information in that book. It has been as it is in this picture for the last 10 years. Wore divots in the frets the length of the necks which really saddened me. 5 years ago I learned to and did a fret level and brought it back to perfect. Still a lot of good meat left on those frets.

I have lots of guitars. Almost all feel brand new, even the used ones I bought. This one, the back of the neck is smooth as glass from the oils in my skin. The edges of the fretboard worn more round from me. I like it tuned to “D” standard, hot single coil pickups from GFS. Fender 5-way switch and 250 pots. Neck has a on/off mini toggle. Has a brass block on the trim and a Tusq nut. Bottom 6 fret positions are scalloped. I use that area a lot, and it was well worth the effort. I was learning to play and learning to work on guitars at the same time and I loved it all. Played everyday, still do for the most part. So, this is my guitar, it has got my DNA all over it and I know every inch of it. It wasn’t born or bought that way but, it has ended up that way.

Is there any significance to the "63"?

My yamaha pacifica (I'll never stop going on about that guitar on this forum lol) was a hand-me-down gift from my poppop, so it came to me already with a sense of familiarity and "honor" if you can call it that.

There's definetely a personal touch to it since my poppop will always be tied to that guitar, but it was amazing just how good it was from the getgo.

I had this awful, awful rockjam strat copy, that was my first electric. Unsaveable, and unsalvageable. There was no part of that guitar that would've been worth modifying, even if I knew how to at that point in my playing career.

When I got the pacifica it was night and day. Smooth, beautiful clean rosewood fretboard, shiny smooth frets, articulate pickups and a beautiful, unscuffed coat of candy apple red paint. I fell in love with that guitar, I'd never sell it.
Through the multiple guitars I've bought throughout the years that one is still my favorite. That's the one I'll almost always go for. I've only modified the pickguard and the bridge pickup (I put in a Dimarzio Air Norton and it only made me love it more).

I have a really strong feeling that, if I ever do play shows with people and eventually do some tours around the state, that'll be the one I bring, and I'd probably be fine only having that with me.

I think I have just found my new number one. My new Gretsch Vintage Select 55 Chet Atkins. It is a blast to play with the shorter scale. My fingers don’t stretch very far and the shorter scale feels great. It also sounds amazing with the TV Jones T-Armond single-coil pickups. I have never taken to a guitar as much as I have this one in the short time I have had it. It’s at the dealer right now getting a complete setup. It is also gorgeous to look at with the nitro lacquer finish in western orange. I love the western motif on it. I ordered her from Sweetwater after my wife suggested I get another Gretsch because I have missed mine so much after I sold it. It was an Electromatic though. This is the first G6120 I have ever owned. I have showed this guitar on several other threads but I don’t mind showing her off again. She no longer has the paper under the bridge.

Love the hardtail bridge. How hard was it to convert it?

Are these guitars good modding platforms? Also is that a rosewood fretboard? I looks very dark and nice.

I would guess they're good modding platforms...but since I haven't modded it, I don't know for sure.
I originally ordered it just for the body, but I've fallen in love with the chunky neck.
One thing I really like about it is the light weight. That seems to be pretty consistent with reviews of Glarry "strats" that I've watched on Youtube.

here's a video of Phil McKnight modding his Glarry:

and here's another modding video:

So that is a Glarry just without the name on it? I have a Glarry Jazz bass that is great. I bought it a couple of years ago and got a custom control plate for it and some Seymour Duncan Heavy Weather pickups but still have put either in it yet. Don’t know why I keep putting it off. I need to take it and have it done as I don’t usually work on my own guitars or basses.

I'm guessing that it's made on the same factory line as Glarrys.

It says the body is made from paulownia wood, which makes a lot of sense, considering the very light weight.

I guess my closest to a "number 1" would be....

I use to do a bunch of guitar electronics work under the table for a local guitar shop in Yuma... He could setup, fret work, build guitars all day, but he couldn't solder to save his 🫏...

I wired up his new builds, fixed customer guitars, customer amps ... But I never charged him... Until I was ready to settle out

He had a body and neck he built hanging in the back of his shop. He originally built the guitar for NAMM 2007, then later robbed it for parts

I saw it and told him we would be square for that body and neck, cut my a pickguard and finish it out, I'll do the electronics.

I originally had 3 Mini- bird humbuckers in it, then a couple years ago, swapped the bridge/neck fo the GF'trons
