I’m not messing with this one (maybe the tuners) looking forward to hearing what these “wide range” humbuckers are capable of putting out, especially with pedals.
Congrats!
I have one in walnut. it's a cool guitar! I didn't change the tuners, but I would recommend considering swapping out the tone pots for 500K instead of the 250K that come standard. It made mine sound better.

@kre8art thanks mate, I figured that flat arm suited the headstock and swoopy vibe of the guitar. Those pickups are well worth a try 👍
Agreed, that trem arm looks fantastic and does pick up the lines of the body and headstock. Given the solid Ice Blue top and black hardware the black modern Trem made the most sense. Mighty nice sir, very tempting to outfit the CV too. Can’t wait to swap pickups!
Nice looking guitar.
Are there different versions of the Squier Starcaster? Some look interesting like this one that's semi hollow, but I get confused with the solid body ones that appear to be really cheap.
Yes, the solid body Strats were a more affordable line but I have never owned one so hopefully someone who has will contribute.
The larger offset guitars were a reissue of the original from the later 1970’s to compete with Gibson’s ES-335 and similar models. All of the Squier Starcasters are semi-hollow construction with a maple block down the center. The Contemporary models have a satin blonde maple neck (not a fan, swapped mine over to the Classic Vibe glossy amber necks), solid arch top and a flat back with a 9 volt battery door because they came stock with SQR active pickups. The other models have sound hole tops and come in a variety of models, finishes with and without binding. The Squier models are made in Indonesia and are well crafted guitars for the money.
Fender did release a “Fender” logo Modern Player version 10 years ago that were made in China.
Purely my opinion they are overpriced ($600+ on the used market), only paying for the better pickups and the Fender name on the headstock.
@Reapprsr

I'm not an expert, but I think the contemporary starcaster is "solid" whereas the CV and Affinity? are still semi-hollow

“Hello

I think they are all semi hollow, only that some have the f (holes) and others don't.

If they were solid they would be too heavy”

Exactly, well said sir, thank you.
I have the identical CV Starcaster. I added a Les Trem. It's my favorite "inexpensive" guitar.
Hmmm… really want one too!
Congrats!

Sweet, that’s the one that got me looking, the Walnut is beautiful and almost never come up for sale… fetch top dollar when they do.
I ordered a Starcaster wiring kit from Gunstreet, they make a standard humbucker and a wide range humbucker version. The wide range kit I ordered comes with 1 meg pots as is recommended for the pickups. Can’t wait!
Any photos to share?
Thanks!

That looks gorgeous!

I wouldn’t mind owning one of those, although I find it a bit of a shame Squier went for a tunematic and stop tailpiece instead of a more true Starcaster bridge…. But that would probably make the guitar too costly and perhaps this is even better.

Anyway, enjoy it and dust off your Leo Nocentelli licks!

Back in the 90s (maybe 80s as well?) Fender sold dirty cheap Starcaster Strats (maybe Teles, too) at big box stores like Walmart. They were **** on at the time, but seem to have gained a following in the 2020s

After seeing @paulos beauty with chrome flat arm Les Trem my stock Starcaster tailpiece wasn’t going to cut it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one anywhere, had to order one from overseas… from France with love or however that expression goes.

Mine came from the same place. I couldn't find one for sale in Australia. Make sure to post some pics when you've fitted it 👍

For sure @paulos, the pics are on the way soon because my tech pushed the other jobs because he really wants to hear what those pickups sound like. I bought them off Reverb thinking they were wide range from a US Ultra Pro Deluxe Tele as the seller listed them but my tech just verified that they are CuNiFe wide range from a Custom Shop. He used to work at Fender and now works at G&L, he called his buddy in the Custom Shop and he gave the thumbs up. Score! The Les Trem with the Gunstreet wiring kit for Starcasters and the CuNiFe pickups… this is one of those permanent collection guitars, never parting with this one.
