Ordered a new neck...

So when I picked up the CV70s natural Strat during Labor day sale in Sept, I told the wife I was going to swap the neck for a maple fretboard, she said she would get me the neck as a birthday present. My birthday is around Labor day..

Anyway, after shopping, pricing, looking some more, I decided on a neck.

Ordered a Fender Lic Allparts Stratocaster NECK Strat Maple 70s Headstock CShape LMF-C and a set of 6 Fender 75th Anniversary Strat Stratocaster TUNERS TUNING PEGS & Ferrules from Stratosphere

I like the 10" radius and Bullet truss rod, it only has 21 frets, but oh well.. I don't go up there much anyway.

I might have to figure out how to tint the neck if its too bleached looking, and figure out a headstock decal ... oh and how to mount a new neck..

...might get a big block for the trem too

Any headstock decal suggestions?

It seems there are a lot of waterslides available, but I was looking for a dry transfer, the waterslides always seem to have a ridge showing...

Your BD was like 2 months ago? I wish they had Iron-On Decals cause I suck doing a Decal. Poly, sand, poly, sand, etc. You can mess up a good Finish, so put up with the Line or leave it blank! Nice Neck also! Do your Fret work before any Finish. I use Gracey's Lacquer on mine!

I use watersides all the time. You just have to bury it in the clear coat. Heavy coat, block sand. Heavy coat, block sand. Over and over until the the finish is level. It also helps to get a very thin decal. Here is one of my Fakers.

Allparts necks are a great choice. If it's not too late, switching to the factory "amber" tinted neck is an up charge but it will save you a lot of work. If you go it on your own, Mohawk sells spray amber tints and clear coats. Spray on a clear coat first, let dry, spray a coat of amber, let dry. If you wish darker tone, apply more amber. When satisfied, apply more clear coat. Plenty of sanding and finishing, but we'll walk you thru when your ready.

I ordered off stratosphere, so tinted wasnt an option. I will have to see what it looks like when it arrives... next Tuesday.

The specs say it already has a poly finish:

Well... it has arrived... and without knowing it, it is vintage tint!

I think it is gonna look exactly how Squier/Fender should have offered this model



However, to use the Fender tuning machines I ordered, I will have to ream the holes.... I might just reuse the stock vintage tuners... which is currently being inspected

Although a Fender Custom Shop logo might go on the back of the headstock, 'cause it won't be stock no more

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!! Must have been more Stoned than me, when you ordered! Cheaper than at Allpart's too! I was one of the first to buy from "The Strat" and stand by them.! Nice that you don't need to Finish! Japan makes nice Necks too! Enjoy.

Here is the current state of the neck project:

Decals arrived, not as advertised as shown on the website as a sheet (see post above), I got cutouts:


Second, the "Have your own serial number" decal was shipped with some other random number, NOT the one I specified in the order notes:

And dealing with the Guy "Tim" over email about it hasn't been what you would call a pleasant experience....

However, the neck is coming together:

Frets leveled, crowned, and polished:


Graphtek nut installed, headstock tuner holes bored out to 10mm for the Fender Professional Series tuners I bought, and tuners mounted:


Now to get up enough nerve to take the neck off the CV70s and see how mucgh work is required to see if the neck fits, line it up and drill the holes...

Started clearing it.
Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane spray, currently up to 4 thin coats

Looks like the decal adhesive is going to give it that opaque look...

Guess it will be a 10' job... looks good from 10'

I think I'm calling it good...

6-7 coats of spray poly,

Hit it with 1000 grit

2 more coats of poly...
