Opinions on the DiMarzio Super Distortion?

Thinking about pickups for the Bullet Mustang I'm modding and the super distortion keeps coming up as one of the go-to's for bridge pickups, and I need some opinions from those who might've used one on their squier!
How do they sound? If you've used one on the Bullet 'Stang then the more specific the better! Either way, it's an exciting looking humbucker that I might invest in.

It’s a ceramic humbucker (like the stock Mustang pickups). I’ve had two early ‘80’s DM SD’s I’ve bounced in various guitars through the years, one landed in my original ‘51 bridge position (which a buddy now owns), the other landed in the neck of my MIM Blacktop Telecaster.

I like the SD for a reason most don’t usually discover… when you back it off from the strings, it has a GREAT clean tone. In my ‘51, it was only 1/8 above the guard, and on my Tele, the top lip is just over the guard.

For me, if a pickup doesn’t sound good clean, it probably won’t sound good dirty. So I lower them until I get the clearest/cleanest tone, and then tune in the finer points.

A note on those Mustang pups, I had one, and they’re pretty hot, I lowered them quite a bit too, and they sounded MUCH better.

FYI, don’t buy a Dimarzio new, they show up used at good prices all the time.

Good to know! Thanks for your reply; I've been watching for used ones on Ebay, think I'll swipe one soon.

I have a brand new set of Mayhem Distortion just waiting to go into something I dream up. If it is still there I may be able to pickup the bones of an 80' Ibanez Destroyer 2 today and rebuild it. That may be a good home for them.

I bought one when they first came out in the 70's wow was it a screamer compared to the pu in the Memphis brand LP i put it in. They are still cranking them out so people must still love em . My first pu swap i believe.
