Hey guys!

This is my first post here and I'd like to share my newly acquired 1996 Yako-made YN6 Squier with you all! I've already done a few mods on it like adding some Graph Tech string trees and I've swapped the cheapo saddles out for some excellent Highwood saddles! Plays like a charm and sounds great even with the stock pickups/electronics. Might swap the bridge out for a Gotoh FST (if it fits) at some point and put my Highwood saddles on that and will also swap out the tuners eventually for some Schallers, eventhough these trap tuners aren't all that bad tbh.

HNGD !!!

I love YN's. :)
Yeah, I read some good things about these particular guitars and the NC Squiers too! I was very impressed with it when it got here. Obviously, the hardware is so-so, but the platform itself is supernice. Great fit and finish, stays in tune really well and the frets are dressed nicely, no sharp ends whatsoever. What surprised me most however, is that these pickups aren't absolute garbage at all, I find them quite musical and offer a wide range of sounds, the neck pickup especially is really good! I might put a humbucker in the bridge though!

I have a YN7.

Mint condition.

Is it worth more than I paid?

I paid £70 for it in 2007.
I'd say yes, prices for YN6/YN7 are rising fast! More so for the YN6s tho. People are realizing how good these guitars are, particularly as a modding platform. The YN7 isn't any different from a YN6, besides the year (YN7 is 1997) and yours likely being labeled with "Affinity" on the headstock. It should still have the same full thickness Alder body and the neck should be the same as well.

I think it's the forum members who are driving up the prices of NC/YN guitars. I used to get them for $50 shipped from SGW only 3 years ago. Now, the bids are close to $200 and you still have to add tax and shipping. It's insane.

Then again, there's a NC near me for $150. I'm gonna let it sit for a bit, and then offer $100. In today's money, that's a good deal. The day's of the $50 NC's are gone.

Yeah, I can totally see that! Honestly, it's still not a lot of money for such a nice guitar though. It just sucks you can't get them absolutely dirt-cheap anymore. I paid about 150eu for mine and it's been worth every cent. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see these up in the 200-250 range in a few years, seeing how fast the prices have gone up for these.

Good luck on the NC Eddie, I hope you'll get it!

I’d say £100-£150 is the going rate over here. I’ve seen them priced higher, but I suspect those ones aren’t selling.

It’s worth noting that Aria Legend Strat copies are essentially NCs with a different logo on the head (and with the option of HSS), but not many people know that so prices on them are still very low. I tried selling mine - admittedly refinished and slightly modded - a while back and I’d have had to pretty much give it away. Unfortunately for Eddie, they were only sold in Europe. :p
