FYI....Monoprice has some of their retro Teles and Strats on sale for $76.
I have both the older two-tone blueburst Strat and the even older white Strat. The newer needed a setup but the white one was pretty much spot on.I bought one like it for about that price for my daughter a year or so ago. It was a very nice guitar that needed only a setup, and that was mainly because she wanted to experiment with all 4ths tuning.
It looks like they have white ones on sale too.
This Indio Tele in Blue w/ Black pickguard is about $77+tax. Time to raid the cookie jar!How did I not see this post? I'd have grabbed a Tele in a heart beat. Argh !!!
My son has the blonde tele and it's pretty nice and a steal at that price. I bought one of those cali strats awhile back and it had the worst fret sprout I'd ever seen. I also bought one of their Boardwalk semi-hollows and it's a beautiful, great playing guitar right out of the box. So quality control may be all over the place which I'm sure most people know about these Chinese imports. This Indio Tele in Blue w/ Black pickguard is about $77+tax. Time to raid the cookie jar!

So, it went from China to the LA area? That's a long trip, and we have no way of knowing how many stops it made in China after leaving the factory but before leaving the country, nor do we know what conditions it experienced on the way to California or after it arrived in California and before it reached the Monoprice warehouse. Did it travel by plane or by ship (with no environmental controls), and after arriving in California, how long did it sit in Customs, and then how many trucks did it ride on, and how many other USPS or UPS facilities did it sit in between Customs and Monoprice's Southern California headquarters? We don't know the answers to any of those questions. In my case, the guitars went from the factory to Monoprice’s professional luthier at their warehouse here in SoCal. From there it was shipped to me. It’s about an hour and a half drive from my home.
Maybe their "luthier" is like me, in that I know how to adjust action, intonation, and the truss rod, but I wouldn't be caught dead trying to do a fret level or to file down sharp frets ends, and even if I did, I don't have the tools to accomplish those things, or the skill or tools to work on nuts either. They probably only do those three things, even if they do know how to do those things, because they don't consider fret and/or nut work to be part of a normal setup. I'll bet that SW's "55 point inspection" also only includes action, intonation, and truss rod, but not any fret or nut work.I expect when a guitar arrives at the SoCal headquarters/warehouse, it is given a professional setup by their luthier, based on how it was explicitly described by Monoprice back when I was trying to buy a guitar from them. Apparently, their professional luthier ignores extreme fret sprout. And, the marring on the guitar finish appeared to be from rough handling. Alot of this was located at / near the control plate, making me think the luthier was the person responsible. I’m not blaming the factory or their shipper. This attempted purchase was near Christmas, 2021. My sense was that their luthier was overwhelmed or just wasn’t professional.![]()
I think this was an overstock dump; I stumbled across it while browsing Reverb for something else.Jt, how often does PAS have sales? I was thinking of a CV Strat to go with my tele.![]()
