Trying to figure out the Tremolo? Last time I had one like this was in 1969 on a 1965 Jazzmaster. I was 15 years old and the Trem, huge Soapbars, and many Switches scared me! I think a 67 SG was next? I am not afraid of this one but I am thinking a New Bridge. When you pull or push Bar, I can see Bridge move like maybe 2mm. The Strings (some) are resting on back plate of Bridge, so that probably is helping in some of the movement. Also, is that middle Screw for Adjustment on (Jazz/Jag) Trem? This is a Mustang, but not with that awful Trem. I use a Palm B-Bender and can raise a note a Step. Like B to C#. I can't raise pitch high as much. I can drop pitch more and wonder what everyone else does with their Trem? Are you pulling or pushing, or both? I am going to measure Posts and try a better Bridge. Many of you bought one of these, so check your Bridge! :D

That's got a Jazzmaster type trem, yes? And also the rocking bridge?

If so here's what you likely need...

Adjusting a Jazzmaster-Type Bridge

These are a bit more complex than some other types. But are very purposful in design, and to many (including me!) absolutely worth learning to work with.

I think the above will be provde pretty much any info you need, but if not, do feel free to ask! There are several of us here that know the ins and outs of them pretty well.

Thanks Don!!!!!!!! 😍 Some of the Pics looked like Strings were resting on back plate of Bridge? Wouldn't that leave a wear mark. It's making mine Rock. Maybe my Post Holes are a little big, so I might be getting some Play? "Don't Come a Knockin' if my Bridge is a Rockin'!

It’s a TOM on standard screw posts/inserts, the movement he’s talking about is in the looseness of the posts/threads.

I guess they are supposed to Rock from reading up on them? Not a Flaw.
The JM’s/Jag’s are, these… not so much, it’s fairly self centering so far for me, but I don’t like the click it makes when it moves, so I put some Teflon tape on the threads and posts to stop it. My strings are not hitting the back of the bridge either, but my action is pretty low, if I raised it, they probably would.

I’m not looking to get a whole step out of it like you are, so I’m content.

This is correct. The bridge should have some sway to it when using the vibrato arm. If it didn't, the strings would move over the saddles causing unwanted noise and negatively affecting tuning stability. It's a feature, not a flaw.
The bridge will only sway if it is a Jag/ Jazzmaster bridge.the one here is a Tune O Matic type also found on Squier JMascis Jazzmaster ( and some fender Jazzmasters). The AdjustA Matic (Fender name for it) will only rock slightly, not enough to make a difference, maybe a bit of flexing. What do the strings look like on the bridge from the side?

This was not designed to rock. With the Tune O Matic there is zero unwanted noise or tuning stability which is why I installed one on my CV Jaguar.I did not like the stock bridge which actually went out of tune for me many times.

Respectfully, I think you're incorrect. TOM bridges have a small amount of movement in the post threads. This can be seen on guitars with Bigsby vibratos. The jag bridge rocks in a completely different way/design.

I pulled the Strings to Investigate! First problem was the Tuner Bushings were not even Finger tight? I turned low E almost 2 Revolutions and the rest at least once. Now to the Bridge! The Bolts wiggle in the Threads way too much. I can't get Strings off back Plate of Bridge. I lowered and Strings didn't rest on Plate anymore. Just rested on the Neck instead? New Roller Tom ordered! I really wanted a Mustang one with Saddle Height Screws so I could lower Bridge, then raise the Saddles. This one has the Narrow String Spacing, so we will see if any better!

Exactly a ”small“ amount. But this is not the same as on my Gretsch or Epi Emperor.I have the same IYV as the one pictured as well as other guitars with a TOM type bridge, they do not move inside the thimble like a JM / Jag type bridge.

I just took IVY off Bed to lean against Wall and the Nut fell out? I need to work on it some anyway. The Posts that went through Bridge are small for the Holes, so a Ton of Play just there alone. This is a "Rockin' Bridge" for sure, but probably not on purpose. No play in the pieces drilled in the Wood, so I am hoping new Bridge is the same Thread. Don't want to remove if not needed! Set of 11's waiting!

How does a nut “fall out”,was there any string tension? We’re there any strings on it at all?

Strings were off! Nut Slot a little wide for Nut and very little Glue. I have a wider one around somewhere? :D

Waiting for a better Bridge to come, so I had time to mess around by blacking out PU covers and put on a Racing Stripe Decal! :D This was 2" Decal that I thought was gonna be Black with White. The backing needs to come off first, then you have to peel off front piece, which wasn't easy, but able to correct. It lays down the 3 Black parts with your Guitar color showing, which I like. I got air bubbles in the middle but can be peeled off and back on!

The nut in my IYV, too, was unglued. But it fit well.

Once, though, I put on my favored unbalanced (Heavy bottom, light top) strings -- 10-52 -- the greater tension on the bass end would slowly shift the nut within the slot towards tension balance.

One very small semi-droplet of Elmers, a water-based "glue" was all it took to solve the problem.

If I ever needed to move or remove the nut it'd be easy and non-destructive, but it now stays in place (even with the strings removed).

Nut was Bone? Verified by my Teeth and File! I need to take off a little on Bass side and File has hardly taken much off. Must be from a Mastadon! ( No Pun Intended to Don)!

Got the Bridge today! Just looking at it, I know the Roller Saddles are Higher up, so Strings should not Rub back of Bridge. This had a half mm. difference from Original, but the Studs fit the Thread of old Bushings. There was Play in the Threads and also hole where Stud goes through Bridge like old one, but when I put it on it was tight and absolutely no Play! :D
